Welding Safety Standards & Compliance

Building a Culture of “Safety First” for Every Project, Every Time.

Safety is Not Just a Guideline—It’s Our Foundation.

In the high-stakes environments of refineries, food processing plants, and energy facilities, a single oversight can lead to catastrophic results. At Raw Welding Inc., we believe that a successful project is defined not only by the quality of the weld but by the safety of the process.

Whether performing complex Industrial Maintenance or emergency repairs, our rigorous adherence to safety protocols ensures that your facility remains secure, your timeline stays on track, and every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.

Welding Safety Standards

1. Our Unwavering Commitment to Safety

At Raw Welding Inc., safety is non-negotiable. It is the core value that dictates every decision we make, from the initial bid to the final inspection. We understand that in industrial construction, “speed” cannot come at the expense of caution.

Our safety culture is driven by leadership with over 30 years of industry experience.

We empower every member of our team—from apprentices to site supervisors—to exercise “Stop Work Authority” if they identify a potential hazard. We do not cut corners, and we do not compromise on the well-being of our team or our clients.

  • Zero-Accident Mentality: We strive for a zero-incident workplace on every job site.
  • Continuous Training: Our team undergoes regular safety drills and updates on the latest industry hazards.
  • Liability Mitigation: By strictly following protocols, we protect our clients from liability and costly downtime associated with accidents.

2. Worksite Safety Procedures

Before an arc is ever struck, a comprehensive safety framework is put in place. Our internal procedures are designed to mitigate the inherent risks of Welding & Fabrication, cutting, and assembly.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

We ensure every technician is equipped with top-tier gear to protect against arc flash, fumes, and physical injury:

  • Eye & Face Protection: ANSI-approved welding helmets with auto-darkening filters to prevent “arc eye” and UV radiation burns.
  • Respiratory Protection: Advanced respirators to filter out hazardous fumes, specifically when working with Stainless Steel Welding (hexavalent chromium) or in confined spaces.
  • Body Protection: Flame-resistant (FR) jackets, heavy-duty leather gloves, and steel-toed boots to guard against sparks, spatter, and falling objects.

Fire Prevention & Hot Work Protocols

Welding creates heat, sparks, and molten metal. We manage this risk through strict Hot Work measures:

  • 35-Foot Rule: We clear all combustible materials within a 35-foot radius of the work area or shield them with fire-resistant covers.
  • Fire Watch: A designated “Fire Watch” personnel is stationed to monitor the area during welding and for at least 30 minutes after the job is done to detect smoldering fires.
  • Permit Compliance: We strictly adhere to all facility-specific Hot Work Permit requirements.

Equipment Inspection

A safe weld requires safe equipment. Before each shift, we inspect:

  • Cables and Hoses: Checking for cuts, frays, or gas leaks.
  • Grounding: Ensuring proper grounding to prevent electrical shock.
  • Gas Cylinders: Verifying that all compressed gas cylinders are secured upright and valves are functioning correctly.

3. On-Site Safety for Clients

Our responsibility extends beyond our own team. When we step into your facility, treating your property and personnel with respect is our priority. We implement specific measures to protect the surrounding environment.

  • Containment: We utilize welding curtains and screens to contain UV radiation and sparks, protecting passersby and nearby equipment from flash burn and damage.
  • Fume Extraction: In indoor facilities, specifically in food processing or manufacturing plants, we use portable fume extractors to maintain air quality and prevent contamination of your products.
  • Clear Signage & Access: We establish clear perimeters with “DANGER: WELDING AREA” signage. This is critical when coordinating with our Scaffolding Services teams to ensure safe overhead access and exclusion zones.
  • Housekeeping: We maintain a “clean-as-you-go” policy to prevent trip hazards (cables/hoses) and ensure your facility remains orderly throughout the project.

4. OSHA & MSHA Aligned Practices

Compliance is the baseline of our operation. Raw Welding Inc. aligns its operational standards with federal and industry regulations to ensure we meet the rigorous demands of the Energy, Mining, and Construction sectors.

  • OSHA 1910 (General Industry) & 1926 (Construction): We adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards regarding welding, cutting, and brazing.
  • MSHA Compliance: For our clients in cement plants and mining operations, our team is versed in Mine Safety and Health Administration protocols, ensuring we are ready for the specific hazards of mining environments where Metal Pipe Welding is often required.
  • Confined Space Entry: Our team is trained in proper confined space procedures, including atmospheric testing and attendant requirements, essential for tank work, vessel repair, and complex Tubing Systems.

5. Emergency Preparedness

While we work to prevent accidents, we are always prepared to respond to them. Every Raw Welding crew arrives on-site equipped for emergencies, especially during high-intensity Crane, Turnarounds & Shutdowns.

  • Fire Suppression: We carry fully charged, inspected fire extinguishers (Class ABC) directly at the point of work.
  • First Aid Readiness: Our trucks are stocked with industrial first aid kits, and key team members are trained in basic first aid and CPR response.
  • Emergency Plans: Before starting work, we familiarize ourselves with the facility’s specific evacuation routes, muster points, and emergency contact numbers.
